You have, no doubt, heard “go wash your face!” at least once a day for most of your life. If you are like most of your friends, you don’t really care about washing your face every day–in fact, doing so feels like a chore! Even after spending years in puberty and battling against regular acne breakouts, washing your face is more of a hassle, especially when all you want to do is go to sleep!

Here’s the truth: to keep bacteria and other things from clogging your pores, you need to keep your face clean. Do you really want to be a grown person sporting a face full of acne? Here are a few hints to help you keep your skin healthy.

Eat Healthily

Are you eating the right foods and getting the nutrients that you need? Being malnutrition can make a lot of people experience acne. Acne is sometimes a sign that you are not getting the right vitamins and minerals that you need. Taking a multi-vitamin every morning can be an easy way to take care of this type of acne problem. Even though the multi-vitamin might not fix all of your nutrient deficiencies, it can do quite a lot to restore balance in your system. When you aren’t properly nutritioned, your body will start to produce extra sebum which then clogs your pores and causes zits and pimples to appear (and makes it easier to get sick). Make sure you eat a balanced diet and get your vitamins!

Buy Products Based On Skin Type

Keep a careful watch out for oil bases when you buy cosmetics and other beauty products. Sometimes even the cleanser you use on your face will have an oily base! Oily pores are the reason you are taking steps to clean your face! When you are shopping check the ingredients of the beauty products and facial products that you are buying. Powder bases are better for your skin because they contain less oil (or none at all) than the liquid based cosmetics on the counter. A facial cleanser should be light and feel more like lotion than soap, so stay away from super heavy liquids or cleansers that start out as solids. Take your time instead of grabbing the first thing you see!

Try Natural Solution

What about the natural products that are already in your kitchen and bathroom that could help you combat those zits? Did you know that toothpaste might be able to cure pimples? An overnight spot treatment of toothpaste on a zit might cure it. Lock the pets out of the bedroom overnight so that they won’t try to taste the toothpaste or lick it off of your face and in the morning your zit will be a lot smaller than it was-it might even be gone! Lots of people use egg whites to clean their faces and reduce their breakouts. The best way to treat acne with egg whites is to use a q-tip to dab some of your mixture directly onto your pimples, though you could also use the egg whites to make a mask.

You have plenty of options available for cleaning your skin and fighting acne. You might be able to get by with only washing your face a couple of times each day. Some people will have to use stronger products on their skin to keep it clean. There are also people who choose to fight acne with diet and exercise. Your acne cure will be specific to you and your skin so don’t be afraid to try new things. The trick is to keep at something for a while.

No acne-fighting method will work overnight–you need to give each method you try at least a few weeks to start having an effect on your skin before moving on to the next solution.
